Illustrator College Unit

Assignment for class, we had to choose a food product (not allowed alcohol for some reason :<*) and re-brand it eventually making an illustrator poster. The first few products I chose were considered not well known enough. This is where it got silly because if a product is well known it probably doesn't need a re-brand-the current branding is working fine.
Eventually I ended off inventing an new drink brand 'created' by Pepsi. The name is based on Pepsi's original name, Brad's Drink.
The drink is meant to be a flavouring syrup for use as a mixer or cordial.
We also had to screen-print our final designs which sort of went alright except the colours were a bit off and being in the print room was a bit hectic.

Symmetrical design because it was my first unit using Illustrator and I didn't want to create something to complicated to vector.

*Looking online, all the alcohol brands had the most gorgeous bottle designs.

Venus

Originally based on a drawing called stagnation but since animating the 'water', stagnation doesn't make sense any more. The swirls remind me of the swirly clouds on a planet though so Venus it is :D
More variations of this coming later :>

Something to upload until I get my college work back on Monday. (hopefully)

Update....gah everything is an update :/

I finally remembered this week to go back to the ceramics room to pick up my stuff from last term. Unfortunately one of my things got broken but it was an extra project for when I had finished my main work so I'm not too bothered :P

This unit was so great because I really like sculpting no matter how god-damn frustrated I got with how weird my piece looked. It's the first time I've done anything with clay since making one of those terrible little tea-light holders in primary school so I was really looking forward to it. For my main piece after we'd been taught the basics about coiling and slab technique I decided I just wanted to sculpt a head and so I brought in some photos of Audrey Hepburn and Natalie Portman (because they're just so damn beautiful ;__;) to use as a reference. This however did not work out well at all and here's why:

Doing this project made me truly realise how little I understand the face as a 3D form.......and even then my 2D faces aren't much better OTL

About half way through before I added the hair, the head looked like Vladimir Putin. It was really weird ; A :
The face still looked really weird but I couldn't figure out the reason. I eventually realised it must be the proportions of the face setting the whole thing off but I didn't have enough time to re-do the whole face.

ANYWAY, here she is, be warned, she looks nothing like Hepburn or Portman:

The artist I researched for this was Andrew Barton. His work is actually REALLY interesting so I've linked to the timeline of his work from 1993-2012. He gives notes or explanations for his work and clicking the pictures will take you to a gallery of the final piece or the progress pictures.

College Work Update

So for one of our units we were told to create a Zine but because I love making life harder for myself I asked instead to illustrate a fairytale story idea I had. I didn't realise how long it took to write stories (how was I supposed to pass my English exams in an hour?!?) so there's that and it's probably very poorly written but I also needed to illustrate it. Quite a bit to do for a lesson I only have one day of the week :|

I'm not going to upload all the pictures because most of them are dreadful so I picked my favourites and parts of pictures that didn't look too bad.

I definitely want to revisit this story again though even if it's just one picture but I want to wait until I can do the story some justice.

Fairies

For our new unit at college, we get to make designs suitable for Moo Cards found at Moo.com. We had to pick from the themes; Seasons, Profession or Superheroes and I felt seasons would be more fun for me.  Now, I actually doodled the fairy(left) whilst watching a film, not planning for it to be anything however it occurred to me this would be a really pretty theme that I could decorate with art nouveau borders * u *

I wonder if the inspiration artist is obvious....

Tuesday 3 January 2012

Finished my rotoscoped animation :D I decided against doing a narrative animation for college because I realised I didn't have the know how to make an animated character to the calibre I'd have liked and would have just been disappointed.

Sorry for epic lag if you're experiencing it >__<
I tried uploading it as a video but it came out in horrible quality and I have no idea how to slow down the animation. I tried changing the frame rate but I get the feeling that isn't going to work.

Colourful Feet Wips

Colourful thing is me attempting to get better at blending. It started off as 5 rectangles on colour. I've been watching so many CTRL+Paint videos and after trying the apple blending exercise I wanted to do it with colours.
Feet are part of a Draw100 challenge I've set on myself. We'll see how that goes...

Lastly Space Chick WIP. I'm having trouble with the colours, the hair didn't look right brown but it looks strange in blonde as well :/
